New stage of asset gasification project in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Today, a ceremony for commissioning of a gas filling compressor station (GFCS) on the territory of the Brod Refinery took place, it was attended by the Serbian member of the Presidium of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milorad Dodik, Chairman of the Government of the Republic of Srpska Radovan Višković and Russian Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Igor Kalabukhov.

The commissioning of the gas filling station became possible owing to the implementation of natural gas supplies through the gas pipeline that connected the Brod Refinery with the gas transportation system of the Republic of Croatia. The length of the gas pipeline is 5.5 km. The total volume of investments in the Brod Refinery gasification project and the autonomous gasification of the Republic of Srpska amounted to 16.2 million euros.

“Today a new stage in the area of supplying the Republic of Srpska with oil products and heat begins. Now it became possible to supply gas to many cities and remote villages of the region, which will help develop new types of business there. At the same time, gas is becoming a more environmentally friendly substitute for many of the products that are currently being produced. For the site to develop and operate successfully, it is important to meet the challenges of the time - this is the safety and environmental friendliness of production. With the arrival of gas the Brod Refinery is experiencing new revival, and we hope that this will allow us to implement many new projects. We thank the leadership of the Republic of Srpska for the trust and support they always provide, and we hope that our cooperation will become even stronger,” - said Sergey Kudryashov, General Director of Zarubezhneft Group of Companies.

“The Zarubezhneft company has been a reliable partner of the Republic of Srpska for many years. During this time, there were many difficulties, but you proved that apart from business, friendship between our countries plays a decisive role. I am glad that the company is diversifying and we are ready to support new projects at all levels,” - said the Serbian member of the Presidium of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milorad Dodik.

The production capacity of the GFCS is 40 million m3 of compressed natural gas (CNG) per year. The delivery of the new product will be carried out exclusively by specialized vehicles intended for the transportation of CNG, which also use CNG as fuel.

The Brod Refinery gasification project solves several important tasks at once: the conversion of the facilities of the refinery itself and the Modriča Motor Oil Plant to natural gas, opens up new opportunities for the production site - the development of autonomous gasification in the Republic of Srpska in order to provide access to the use of gas by the population, industrial and municipal enterprises, sales of CNG as a fuel at filling stations; and, as a result, - reducing the negative impact on the environment due to the transition to a more environmentally friendly type of fuel - natural gas.

Over the past few years, in order to improve the efficiency of the Brod Refinery, a number of projects have been implemented - a course has been taken to expand the enterprise's activities in accordance with current global trends in the fuel and energy sector. In addition to the gasification project, a solar power plant was built at the refinery, and a new boiler house was installed and commissioned.

This year, the construction of a plant for the production of polymer-modified bitumen began. This will allow the plant to produce a new type of product that is in demand on the market, ensure efficient employment of personnel in the production process, and also reduce the negative impact on the environment to a minimum.

It was also decided to use the existing capacities of the Brod Refinery to provide services for the storage and transshipment of oil products, in particular, gasoline and diesel fuel. The company plans to use the reservoir capacities of the refinery as efficiently as possible and develop a large hub for transshipment and storage of oil products at the refinery. The oil products transshipment volume at the Brod Refinery in 2021 will exceed 30 thousand tons.
