"...Assam Asset drills sidetrack well
Following the first successful side-track of Lakwa#225 in December 2003, ONGC's Assam Asset has crossed yet another milestone with the drilling and completion of the first high-angle side-track with an inclination of 61 degrees in Lakwa# 300, in association with M/S Zarubezhneft of Russia. The well is presently producing 45 m3/d of clean oil after idling for more than 13 years. The well Lakwa#300, com-pleted in TS-2 sand in February 1987, became sick with very high water-cut in January 1991, after a cumulative production of 69927 tonnes. Water shut-off attempted in July 1992 could not be completed due to stuck up/snapped tubing. The well was sidetracked in April 2004 with a 4%" slim hole drilled through a window in 5 1/2" easing 108 m away from old well and was completed with 4" liner with good cementation.
At present, 10 more non-flowing wells have been identified for side-tracks to exploit un-drained areas. The locals as well as the trajectories have been fine tuned using the state-of-the-art simulation model developed by IKS. The Asset is in the process of techno-commercial evaluation for completing these sidetracks in about two years time".
